Description: For some of us, our camera is much as part of the SCA experience as a fighter’s helm or a brewer’s tankard. Cameras of all types is one of those mundane objects most people in the SCA over look, but at times can be an annoyance to some people's event. Come and discus with us the place of cameras in these modern middle ages. This class will be split into two parts, the first half being lecture and discussion. The second part will be wondering around the war, taking pictures, so bring your camera and gear for the photo pilgrimage.

Carve your own stone intaglio seal (jewelry-making)

Description: Intaglio carved stones were popular items of jewelry throughout period. In fact, old intaglios were often re-set for use by new owners hundreds of years later. They ranged in detail from very simple scratch carvings to highly detailed works of art. In this class, you will learn some history, including how these stones were carved in period; however, the majority of the class is hands-on. We'll start working in clay to get a feel for the process, then shift to carving stones with patterns of your choice (your device, badge, favorite critter...). If you have a piece of jewelry or appropriate stone that you would like to carve, bring it. Red or black agate stones will be provided for those who want them, and the class will end with setting these stones into simple, early period rings. Tools are limited, so either we will share or we will have to limit class size, but onlookers are welcome, and people who bring their own rotary tools are even more welcome.
